Abstract

Iron(III)-bipyridine complex was prepared and
characterized by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Kinetic
study was carried out by using this iron(III)-bipyridine
with thiodipropionic acid in aqueous acetonitrile solution.
The reaction was optimized by studying the effect on
substrate, solvent, oxidant, acidity and temperature. First
order, second order rate constants and activation
parameters were calculated. The above reaction was
found to be second order and proceeded through electron
transfer from thiodipropionic acid to iron(III)-bipyridine
complex. The product was characterized and confirmed
by IR and NMR spectroscopy.
Keywords: Thiodipropionic acid, Iron(III)-bipyridine complex,
kinetic study of Iron(III)-bipyridyl complexes.
